I am installing Pro-rib steel roofing. My home was built in 1908. While in the attic I noticed the existing asphalt roof is installed on 1x6's set on 12" centers. I am tearing off the shingles to the wood. Should I install the metal over 30# felt as is, or should I fill in the gaps between the 1x6's and then felt? Also in ether case should I install nailer strips? The attic is vented with gable vents on 2 sides, also my roof is a hip roof with no ridges.

I would suggest that you defer to the instruction of the manufacturer. The enforceability of your warranty will depend on compliance with their installation protocols. Eric Novotny
