We want to reroof with metal over an existing asphalt shingle roof. We are going to put down felt, 2 x 4, ANOTHER layer of 3/4 plywood, more felt and then the metal roofing. Is that too much weight?

Really it depends on how the house was built. You may need to hire a structural engineer to look at things. Todd Miller

Why do you need to put down plywood and felt? Metal roofing doesn't need anything under it.

It would seem to make more sense to simply remove the existing shingles, put down felt, and put the metal roofing directly over that. This would in most cases reduce the weight instead of adding to it, and be a much easier installation as well.
