I'm beginning the process of obtaining quotes for a new metal roof. One of the concerns I have come across in my research, is the possibility of roof damage on one side of a valley that is caused by snow shedding from the opposing side. Is this something to be concerned about, and if so, what should I be asking the contractors who will be providing the quotes in order to ensure their understanding of this potential problem as well as proper installation?

Ask them to explain or diagram their valley design. Valleys that receive the panels into a channel which can trap ice, snow, tree leaves, etc as they run into the valley are prone to this issue. Some valleys though are designed to not have channels where things collect and that is what you'd want.
