Roofing on a Cabin

I am looking for a new roof for a cabin in the woods at our family farm. The current one is just your basic shingles and are starting to rot, fall off, and grow moss. I am looking for a solution that will hold up better and was wondering what style would work best. I am thinking a vertical panel so with our highly sloped roof all of the sticks that fall from the trees will roll off. What do you guys think? Also i need to put siding on and i was also thinking metal. I don't want it to look like a tin hut. Any help would be great!

Vertical seam is certainly a good choice. Some of the heavily textured shake profile metal roofs though could protect against and even hide minor indentations that could occur if heavy branches hit the roof. Todd Miller
