Our neighbors put up a shed with a corrugated silver metal roof, which they tell us is a solar collector. The side of our house that faces them is two floors of picture windows. We are experiencing the most awful glare from that roof for hours every day. We can't stand in any room on that side of our house and even glance out the windows, due to the hideous white light that is blinding us. We feel like some sort of solar armament is being aimed at us! Can these type roofs be painted and still work as solar collectors? Can anybody help before we go blind? We have mentioned this to our neighbors, but haven't gotten a response as yet.

I am sorry ... not sure what they have but if it is a solar collector then painting it will probably ruin it. Todd Miller

You could possibly timt it like a car window, but virtually anything you do to it would diminish the solar gathering effect. Tom Manager Keith's Rochester Roofing

I spent $898.00 on window tinting and it only just helped. I will still have to buy blackout shades for my 13 windows on the south side facing a white metal roof. They should be outlawed

It sounds like these roofs are for reflecting solar, not collecting. Reflecting helps keeps home cooler in warm weather. There are metal roofs available in dark colors with reflective pigment for this purpose. Todd Miller
