Hi, I have read most of your responses to metal installation over a shingled roof. My roof has only one lay of shingles, about 25 years old and they are flat with none missing and in good condition. I have two questions. Do you recommend 26 ga. or 29 ga. metal for the project? And would you use 30 lb. felt or strip the roof with 1 x 4 stripping? Thanks Bobby G.

These questions are really determined by what you're seeking. Not all products, particularly lighter gauge ones, can be installed over battens. Gauge is certainly not the only indicator of life expectancy but it can be one. Also look at paint finish, warranty, testing, etc. Todd Miller
