I saw " Natural Metal Finishes " in the " finishing samples " section and was wondering if that ever needs painting..... If not , is there such a metal roofing product that you don't have to paint?

In most climates, most galvanized and galvalume products will eventually need to be painted for additional protection. For the most part, aluminum is not available unpainted for residential roofing. Metals which are available unpainted which can be left unpainted include copper, zinc, stainless steel, terne coated steel or terne coated stainless, and titanium. Todd Miller

Todd, how long will an unpainted galvanized roof last before it needs paint? From what I have read so for, the steel roof we are planning to put on our new home will probably last 50 or more years. We want the natural unfinished metal look (is that galvanized?) and we also want the best for energy savings. Really appreciate your response. I'm going to copy this and send it to you direct just in case this thread has expired. thanks Jack West

I am sure that a lot of this will depend on your location. Things like salt air and acid rain will accellerate the aging. Provided the roof is G90 galvanized or AZ55 galvalume and you're not in a particularly brutal climate, I would estimate about 20 years before painting will be necessary. Todd Miller
