We need to replace old shingle roof and want to get metal roof. There are huge trees around our long low 50's ranch house, and nuts fall from the trees onto our roof. We really don't mind the noise (well, sometimes at night we do) but my question is -- will the nuts falling on the roof do damage to a metal roof? Thanks for your response.

That is very unpredictable. A lot depends upon the style and type of metal roof and also the force with which the nuts fall. I have been in this business for alomost 30 years and have yet to hear of this being an issue but there is a first time for everything. I would suggest finding a metal product you like and then talking to its manufacturer about this. Keep in mind that any damage that is caused will be aesthetic, not functional. Todd Miller

Todd, thanks for your response, especially since you are in the business. Actually, it is only one end of the house where the trees overhang the roof -- but it is the end where our bedroom is so we notice it the most at night and early morning if the wind is blowing. Oh well, at least the squirrels and chipmunks are well fed! We will follow your recommendation and bring up the subject when we begin the process of selecting a roof and installer. Have a great day!
