I have an existing metal roof that was attatched by using 1X4s nailed to the rafters and the roof screwed to the 1X4s, my problem is that the screws back out and get loose and therefore a leak. I replaced all the screws with longer ones that went all the way through the 1X4s, this helped but over a year I will find one that is loose, especially around the eves. I have the R panels. What can I do to stop this?

You may need to switch to a larger diameter screw, and the highest quality you can find. Todd Miller

Just what are the differences in the screws. Is there one that helps in them backing out of the wood?

Unfortunately I am not an expert in screws. However, the cut of the thread can have a big impact and generally more expensive screws will hold better. Todd Miller
