Do you need any barrier under a metal roof system such as asphalt paper or a tyvek type of product

It depends on the type of roof system. Some systems require a minimum roof pitch of around 3:12 and may also require a waterproof membrane. Check with the manufacuter of the product you intend to use for specific reomendations.
