What is the reliability history of bonded plastic snow brakes versus metal brakes that are screwed down? I've avoided penetrations with the standing seam no exposed fasteners steel, and it seems a shame to drill holes through it for the brakes. Bonding plastic brakes seems to follow that mantra. On the other hand, the metal screw down type seem to be a one-and-done deal. Have seen some brakes that grab the standing seams, but they look very "industrial" and are way too expensive. Installation tips?

My personal opinion is that I would use neither. I do not want to penetrate the roof by using through-fastened "brakes". The glue on type are only as strong as the bond of the paint to the metal. I prefer the S-5! type which attach to the standing seams without penetrating the metal.
