What is the correct way to install ISO rigid insulation board with foil backing on one side? My contractor has put the foil-side down towards roofdecking. It's for 2:12 roof pitch and the house is located in Seattle area. Thank you for your advice.

If possible, the foil should face an airspace. If not possible, I am not sure it makes any difference. Todd Miller

The T & G roof decking doesn't have attic space. So ISO insulation board was installed over roof decking. And then he installed 1/2" plywood, 30# felt and standing seam metal roof at last. There is no air space. My husband says that the foil should point upward, not the roof decking side. The house is located in Seattle area if it makes a difference. Thank you for your clarification.

I would suggest contacting the insulation company to see what their testing has revealed but generally if a radiant barrier does nit face an airspace, its effectiveness is lost meaning in your case the radiant barrier will not be doing much no matter which way it faces. Todd Miller
