We have a free standing screen porch with a metal roof that is leaking at a couple of places along the ridge. How do I go about determining what the problem is and, hopefully, find a solution. I don't know where to start.

Bill, if you can send a couple of pictures, from the outside at the ridge as well as the inside wood (if possible) we may be able to give a more detailed analysis. A couple of questions that may help determine the issue: 1. What type of metal roof is this? (standing seam, exposed fastened, metal shingles, etc) 2. When does the leaking happen? (Anytime it rains, only when it rains hard, blowing rain, etc) 3. If it's a vertical ribbed system, is there any type of metal or foam closures sealing off the space between the ribs? 4. How wide is your ridge cap? 5. Are your fasteners at the ridge properly installed? (check for loose screws, crooked screws, etc) If you know who installed it you will also want them to come out and look at it as well.
