I am going to have a metal roof put on. He puts felt down, I've heard others put wood under. What way is best? Thanks Carol

I'm assuming you're installing a vertical panel type metal roof system. Both ways have their advantages as shown below. Also you will want to check with the manufacturer of your particular panel, as some of them have specific requirements. Felt advantages: - Easier - less expensive - Creates a firmer roof. - Acts as a temporary water barrier before you put the metal down. Wood advantages: - Allows for greater ventilation under the panels. - If you have uneven spots, you can shim up the boards and make it more even. In many cases either one will work fine. I personally can't say that one is better than the other. Many contractors have a prefered method, but that doesn't make one way better than the other. Todd may have some more insights on this as well.
