Were building a porch addition which will have a metal roof. Can OSB be used as a roof decking, to save on costs, or is Plywwod the safer bet. The roof will be a standing seam type.

With most metal roofing you can use either. You may want to check with the manufacturer of your particular standing seam type. As a rule plywood is stronger, and provides better holding power for the roof fasteners. If you go with OSB you may want to consider using a thicker material.

If its a open porch I would say osb. Plywood Will warp rather than just expand. However I believe by warranty standards it should be 5/8" minimum.
