How do you figure pitch of a roof

Roof pitch is determined by rise over run. A 4:12 pitch roof will raise vertically 4" for every 12" it runs horizontally. You can use a level and a tape measure on the roof or there are tools at the home centers that you can sight through to determine pitch. Todd Miller
