During a pre- home purchase inspection of a home in Jupiter, Florida built in 2006 we discovered the metal roof: 1. Was not vented 2. Fiberglass batt - installation with vapor barrier up against the plywood sheathing under the metal roof. Is this insulation practice OK? The inspector found no signs of moisture issues but this home has been empty for the last 2 years with no AC so I’m concerned there a maybe issues once the AC is run normally. Obviously concerned with unexpected repairs costs down the road. Any advice would be appreciated. Regards

This is not normal nor, in my opinion, preferred, but if the vapor barrier keeps moisture from reach the roof decking, it may be fine. Todd Miller

Todd, Thanks you for your reply. Not sure what you mean by moisture reaching the roof deck. Perhaps I wasn’t clear on this.. The roof material levels are metal=> fastened to plywood sheathing=>fastened to roof joist=>batt-insulation between joists with vapor barrier-up against plywood sheathing. Any additional information would be appreciated. Regards
