On a pole barn a person wants to change their old aluminum roof(no vapor barrier) to a metal roof. The person said that he heard that metal roofs will condensate more than aluminum roofs do. Is there any truth to that? Also do many people condensate pole barns that are not heated? thanks,

Ben, Aluminum is metal and aluminum or steel will probably condensate about the same. There are others on this website that can probably answer that better than me.

My other question is when is it good to use a vapor barrier under a metal pole barn roof. If it is cold storage not heated with skylights I would think not having insulation vapor barrier under roof metal would be okay. If you are heating or having animals inside then I could see using one. What are your thoughts? thanks,

I agree ... as long as there are no heat or moisture sources inside you should be okay. Todd Miller
