Hi, I'm building a new structure and my roof is going to have lightweight concrete. Do I have to put vented metal deck or can I put normal vented deck? Which one would be better?

I am rather unfamiliar with concrete roof construction. By "metal deck" if you are referring to the deck beneath the concrete, I do not believe you want it to be vented but you really are best to verify this with someone who is an expert in that style of construction. Todd Miller

i have done many concrete deck buildings. the idea of venting the concrete is to allow the moisture to be able to continue to purge from the concrete for the duration of the building. vented deck is now used wherever there is a resilient floor above and it seems to offer no down side. i have personally seen a sealed wood floor buckle to death on a non-vented deck. our office doesn t use non-vented deck anymore at all unless we are using light weight concrete which is so soupy that it seeps through the vents. since you are using light weight concrete, i would hesitate to use a vented deck. for a roof application it is fine. for a floor application.... i will always specify vented except for the exceptions.

hi! my husband and I are building our dream cottage. Last weekend we managed to get 1/2 the roof sheeted with metal. The pitch is 8/12. Now we are baffled as to how we will apply the vented ridge cap after we put on the other side of metal up. Should we apply to cap now and just screw it to what is already down and then screw the rest down when we put up the other side. hope you can help and my question is clear... thanks sharon
