I have experienced severe ice damming and consequently some water damage to my asphalt roof due to the severe freeze-thaw cycle here in the mountains. How will a metal roof handle this? We routinely get 80-90 mph winds in the winter and heavy snow loading. That being said, can the metal roof be installed without venting? Is guttering necessary? Thanks.

I am sure that your roof can successfully be done with metal. That said, venting is good for most forms of construction. Gutter is always optional. Use this site to find some roofs you like and then contact their manufacturers. Some metal roofs can be vented above the sheathing.
