is there an increased risk of lightning strikes to buildings with metal roof? this property has a history of lightning strikes.

No. Lightning always strikes the highest point. Having a metal roof will not affect this. If your roof is the highest point, you may want to consider installing a lightning rod. The good news is that if lightning did hit your house, a metal roof would actually help because of being fire resistant. also check out http://www.metalroofing.com/v2/content/mra101/flash.cfm
