I recently bought an old house with a brand new galvalume roof installed directly over the 1x4 purlins, with no underlaymant. The purlins are spaced about 3 inches apart. The sound of debris falling on the roof is incredible. My house is surrounded by pecan trees and I've already had the tress trimmed back from the roof, but branches and pecans still fall on the roof. It is so loud that we have trouble sleeping through storms. There is only a thin layer of insulation on the attic floor and we do plan on blowing in cellulose insulation. Beyond this, is there anything you would recommend to help baffle the noise, like spraying icynene directly on the underside of the roof? Or would that cause condensation or other moisture problems?
