I was told by a metal roofing salesman not to get the vertical paneled metal roof because it would leak. He is pushing the asphalt coated metal shingles on us & I am wondering if the panels really do leak? I would like an objective opinion of the advantages of the vertical panels vs. the asphalt coated shingles. What is the price difference, generally. Thanks.

It's a matter of preference and the style of your house, a country setting or a rural environment. A ranch style house looks good with a vertical panel. On many other style houses a 'slate' or 'tile' look is great. If installed correctly, you shouldn't have a problem with any of them. There are other metal roofs besides the stone coated and the vertical panels. Many MRA members manufacture panels that look like slate and shakes that are not stone coated. Also, I am not a manufacturer. I install metal.

I agree with Wade's comments. One thing I loike about metal is the variety of styles available. There are some good basic things to look for to help in determining product quality and if you email me at [email protected] I can send you a guide which walks you through good things to have on your radar screen during your decision process. Generally, price of an item is a good guide to its relative quality compared to another product. Todd Miller

The Decra roofing is double the cost of a traditional shingle roof. Does this sound right and do you have any sugestions on manufacturer? Also, do you have to be certified to put on this type of roof? What do you think about the mediterranean tile by Decra? In Black on a white house?

Price sounds fine. Decra makes a good product as do their manufacturers. Their Villa Tile is very attractive aesthetically. Keep in mind that black is very black. There are many other pretty colors as well. Todd Miller
