In this part of Canada I get the impression the typical paint system on residential roofing is called 5000 series. In commercial roofing we can get 8000 series and 10,000 series. I see reference on this site to Kynar 500 as the superior system. Not sure if it is available here. Can someone give me the percentage price differences between the various paint systems available for metal roofing starting with the lease expensive and indicate the premium for each increase in quality.

Trying to relate a price difference is pretty much impossible. That is because, as you go to better paint finishes, typically other things change as well -- the base metal, the panel type, etc. -- and those things all affect price too. When investigating this, do not be thrown by trade names that various paint manufacturers or panel manufacturers may use. Generally, for roofing, from low to high quality, the progression is as follows: Platisol, polyester, acrylic enamel, modified polyester, Kynar 500 / Hylar 5000. I have an article I can send which gives more detail on this if you like. Email me at [email protected] to get a copy of it. Todd Miller
