Stone coated steel roof / insulation or air space?

I am replacing a shake roof with stone coated steel. Manufacturers such as Decra/Gerard do not have data whether or not using 1 1/2" fiberglass insulation or radiant barrier will provide increased effectiveness over leaving the batton system air space open. I have a large attic used for storage and wish to minimize the heat temperature as much as possible. Do you have any data or recommendations on which solution is best? Thanks.

I would vent the batten area -- intake air at bottom and a ridge vent detail. That is very effective. If you wish to throw a radiant barrier into the mix, that would help even more. Todd Miller
