I'm considering purchasing an A Frame cabin in NH. It needs a new roof and I'd like to use a metal roof as replacement.
Presently the roof consists of 2x6 T&G Pine covered with 2 layers of asphalt.
Here's what I'm thinking: Install vapor barrier, then 2x2 strapping vertically up the roof and then adding 2" of rigid foam insulation, then cover it all up with a metal roof.
Do you see any problems with this approach?
should I remove the asphalt shingles first?
Do I need to install plywood over the insulation before installing the metal roof?
Would you be able to ballpark a cost per square foot for something like this to help me factor in the cost to my offer to buy the cabin?
I really appreciate the input!
