Our homeowners association has declined to approve our plan to put a metal roof on our house and boathouse - citing concerns about glare for the neighbors. Our current choice is 26 gauge aluminum, burnished slate with a matte finish. We submitted a sample to them which they determined is quite glossy. We cannot understand how they can look at this sample and see glossy. Nevertheless, is this a valid concern on their part? Would like your opinion.

I do not feel it is a valid concern, no. Especially not with matte finish.
Additionally, imagine if you let your car sit outside for a few months and never washed it. Would it still shine? Same thing with a roof. Any gloss that is there quickly diminishes.
As an industry, we have ways of responding to things like this and helping HOAs and ARBs work their way through to see the value of metal roofing.
Email direct to me at [email protected] if you would like us to work with your folks.
