I am in the process of installing a new 1' locking seam roof over the existing asphalt shingles. I was planning on using 30lb felt as the under layment before putting down the 1x4 wood strips until I started reading about your recommendations on synthetic under layment. I am am interested in using it istead of the felt but would like a little more information about it. What manufactures do you recommend? ect Anything else I would need to know in my situation?

There are many good synthetics ... some differences but properly installed they all can work ... Titanium, RoofTopGuard, SharkSkin, Palisades. They are nice for their low weight and ultimate durability. Todd Miller

my sub put the palisades weather shield over new felt paper. Is that an issue or a little better coverage? We are installing an imported red flat tile (1600# per sq).

You should put your 1x4's down before you put your felt down. What's going to protect your 1x's from any condensation that devolops?

Hey RC, why did you select the Palisades underlayment over the others?
