I have a 31 foot wide dome home (made by Domes America) and currently have shingled shakes which I would like to replace with metal. Are there any qualified contractors who have performed this type of job? The dome is created with hexigons and pentigons and is a 5/8's sphere. I would appreciate any assistance with this effort.

Dome homes, as you know, present a unique roofing challenge. This is regardless of what product is chosen. Of course, using a long-term product like metal will save you future roofing expenses, so that makes a lot of sense. I have seen several dome styles and designs over the years. There are metal products that can be used successfully on domes. And, as you suspect, having a good, experienced installer is the best idea. My best suggestion is to contact the product manufacturer(s) of your choice and pose these questions to them. Also, I do know of a metal roofing installer in southern California who has worked on domes before. If you like, email me direct and I can provide you with his contact information.
