Granulated roof panels?

We are looking for roofing solutions for our new passive solar home which we will be putting up in August. The snowloads here can be huge (code calls for 120 lbs per square foot loading). Standard metal roofs typically result in slide debris over 6 feet deep on most of the houses I have observed. Piles of snow that deep would require removal to take advantage of our passive solar design. Anti-slide devices are out of favor with most of the contractors due to their experience with long term durability and reluctance to create more penetrations. In our case with a SIP roof and no trusses to anchor to, we are concerned about all of the above. We also have an additional complication that the subdivision specifies cedar shake or traditional metal roofing. They are not amenable to stamped metal that tries to look like shake. Bottom line. We want a metal roof and are looking for non-sliding, granulated surface in a vertical seamed metal roof ( standing seam or similar). Does such a product exist ?

Currently there are no granulated surface standing seam products available, but many granulated surface shake, shingle and tile profiles. My company (www.classicroof.com) has experiemented with a textured powder coat Kynar surface on standing seam but we cannot make panels over about 16' in length as I recall. Todd Miller

Thanks for the response Todd, Too bad, we'll likely try to apply for a variance and get asphalt approved by the Homeowners Association. We'd rather go metal but quite frankly the shake look metal products I have seen haven't looked very convincing. Steve

I have one of my company's products on our house ... we have a lot of natural shake in our neighborhood ... and I really think everyone feels our roof is shake, too. It is my company's Country Manor Shake which can be seen on our website at www.classicroof.com Todd Miller
