I recently purchased a home with a new garage that has a metal roof. Above the garage there is a loft area that I was going to finish into my own little get away. The roof was installed directly onto the rafters and I need to know how I would go about insulating and reducing the sound from rain, sleet, snow and hail as well as keeping the room as energy efficent as possible.

There will be two keys that are very critical. One is a vapor barrier behind the drywall ceiling. The second is a minimum 1" vented airspace (intake and exhaust) between the insulation you add and the metal roof. Do not "dense pack" the insulation. As long as you do these things, that will make all the difference.
