I have a timberframe home enclosed with SIP panels. (top layer is OSB) The SIP manufacturer is not clear with a answer for the following:
Can I use a "Charcoal" metal roof color on the SIP roof panel or would that be to dark for the SIP. Also, do I install a strapping (1x3's) or just iceshield, felt and then install the roofing. I am thing of a 26 gauge standing seam product.

Metal in any color is okay for this.
If the SIP's do not hav a built-in airspace for ventilation then I would select a metal roof that can be installed on battens and I would cross batten (vertical then horizontal) on top of the panels and ventilate the reuslting chamber.

I installed a 26 gauge galvanized, r panel metal roof over sips using muellars titanium underlayment & 1" x 4" boards horizontally. r-panel sheets have built in ribs w +- 4sq in. every 12" for venting - ridgecap is oversize w/vented closures - eaves also have vents - the problems ive heard of come from the inside of the house. improper panel assm. heat, condensation, humidity & moisture escaping between panels & rotting edges to point of failure - when i did my roof nobody would could tell me the proper way to install the metal panels. i did it the way my architech had them drawn. i can see where the vertical strips down first would be advantagous to the point if you had a leak it would run to the bttm & drain out eave before penatrating your sips. the only failures i actully heard of were in alaska where they had laid tar paper
& composition shingles directly on top of sips w/ no air gap or venting for moiusture to escape
