20 years ago we raised a part of our roof to make an upstairs bed and bathroom. The half lap asphalt roof finally gave up so I now have a tarp over the 16 x 16 area. The roof drops 1 foot in 16 feet so it is almost flat. There is a 2 1/2" vent pipe above the bathroom. Should I shovel off the old roof before installing the steel panels? If yes, do I need to underlay it with more than felt paper? The rest of the house is roofed with 3 tab asphalt shingles with tabs over the ridge. How do I cover the ridge over the steel panels?

With this low slope, I would remove the existing roof material. Instal a self adhering ice and water sield, then strao the roof vertically to provide an air space and the horizontally to accept the roof sheets. Use a profiled vented eave and ridge foam closure strip to provide ventilation to the air space and cap the ridge with a standard ridge cap.
