Please address the safety of a metal roof to be used for water catchment. Should I only use a certain type of metal roof, or a certain type of finish on it? I don't know if copper or zinc or aluminum is safest. Thanks for your advice. Irene

Metal roofing of all types is used for water catchment. However, I personally will not recommend it due to potential liability. No one has ever empirically proven it is safe. As a result, if someone did become ill who drank water from a metal roof, fingers could be pointed at the roof, whether that is right or wrong.
