I would like to know what size I-beam to use for an open span roof. The complete span will be 53'. I will be supporting the truss at 31'.There will be a 10' overhang on both sides that will have cedar post for support on the eave. The roof will be on a 5/12 pitch. The only thing that it will be supporting wil be the metal roof and purlins. In my living room/kitchen there will be a vaulted ceiling in the living room and the kitchen will drop from 16' to 10' ceiling. The span for this room is 28'. Thanks Darold

This really is a structural design / engineering question which I do not have the expertise to answer. I am sorry. The supplier of your structural steel should be able to help. Todd Miller
