In this forum, I've seen many other relative comparisons in cost between metal and asphalt shingle. I'm curious how the cost of metal compares with CEMENT TILE. I am at a stage where I need to decide between staying with flat cement tile, or switching to a metal tile roof. I've read and heard conflicting information, so I was hoping you could help clear the air. My house is in southeast Florida. It was built in 1955. It still has the original white, flat cement tile roof(!). We are building on an addition, and that is the time to make a roof change. My designer says that a metal roof costs TWICE as much as a cement tile roof. Other sources of information indicate that cememt tile and metal roofs are COMPARABLE. I know that you can't give specifics on cost, but what is your understanding on the RELATIVE cost between flat cement tile and metal roofs. Thanks!

Metal roofing comes in a wide variety of types and styles and qualities, each with its own price point. I'd say you can buy a metal roof for less than the tile but also for 2 - 3 times the cost of the tile. I would expect to pay at least 1.5 times for a quality metal roof. Metal is also much lower weight than tile and it has certain energy efficiencies. Todd Miller

Thanks for the reply. I guess I won't know for sure until I know exactly what type of metal roof I'm interested in. I'm just starting to learn the different types (5V crimp vs. standing seam vs. metal tile vs....). And that's probably only the start of the decisions ... metal thickness, aluminum vs. steel etc. So much to learn...
