I would like to convert my garage (16'x22')roof which is a flat roof to a sloped roof using premade trusses it has solid brick walls no stick framing, I was thinking of running 2x6 plates around the perimeter and using some kind of ties to strap the trusses to the plates, is this common practise or am i going about this the wrong way any info would be useful thank you. james

You are on the right track. Certain areas have wind load requirements that mean certain anchoring methods. Check with the local building department.
