Snow falling from roof above a flat roof

I have a Normandy style house built in 1921. It has a slate roof. A room was added to the front with a asphalt roof. I am considering a metal replacement roof so I would not have to climb out and shovel off the snow in the winter. It recieves snow from the sky and from the upper roof. The snow from the upper roof falls in large crashing mounds down one of the valleys of the slate roof. Will this damage a metal roof? And, at a 20 degree slope is there enough to have the snow slide off it?

I would suggest a snow retention device such as snowguards or a snowbar on the upper roof. Your roofing manufacturer will help you arrive at a suitable solution. Todd Miller
