I have observed a lot of panel metal roofs being installed without ventalation. Is this acceptable? What type of problems are likely to happen, if any, in this hot and mostly dry climate?

Well the building code does call for ventilation. Most important is that it has now been proven that proper ventilation will keep your energy costs down. Also if you are in an are where the temperature crosses the dew point wher it condensates, you trully need it. Best advice is to provide a vertical free vented air under the new roof and vent the attic. This alone will reduce heat transfer by 70% over an asphalt shingle.

The ventilation could occur either place -- in the atticspace or directly beneath the metal panels. Todd Miller

I keep reading about the need for ventilation. I am really confused, since Florida Solar Energy Center says no to ventilation.

Please send me a link to where FSEC is saying that and I will try to explain. I know that FSEC does believe in ventilation in the right applications. Todd Miller
