I have several questions about installing a metal roof over shingles. I've read you shouldn't make any cuts with a saw, to use a shear instead. How do you cut a sheet length wise? The peak of my roof is longer than the eave. I'd have to cut 4 sheets at an angle. I also have a vent hood over my bathroom exhaust and one over my stove exhaust which would have to be extended up to allow for stripping and the panels themselves. I had an earlier question involving bats I don't think was quite understood. How do you keep them from getting into the little ridges in the panels at the eaves? Not the ridge of the roof?

1) To cut a vertical rib metal panel with a smooth finish length wise the best tool is an electric nibbler. It will follow up and down over the profiles as well. They are available to rent at some rental shops. 2) To flash a hood vent, it is best to have two sheets. Install the lower sheet first, make it end at least 12" above the penetration, cut the hole and then install the hood flashing. Use a profiled closure strip to seal to the panel. Then install the upper sheet terminating to a point just at the lower edge of the hood and cut a U shape out allowing clearance for the water. Again use a profiled closure strip to seal. 3)Use a profiled closure strip to seal the openings.Use vented material if possible.

Thanks for your help. Now one more dumb question, Is the profiled closure strip made of metal?

Some companies have both, however here you need the foam one.
