Florida is the lightening capital of the World. Are metal roofs a concern in attracting lightening to your home?

Metal does not attract lightning. Lightning will strike the highest object around -- usually a tree or power pole or maybe the chimney. If someone really wants as extra precaution, the metal roof could be specifically grounded though that is rarely done. Years ago, when metal plumbing vent pipes came through roofs, they could get hit and transfer the charge into the home but, by code, those most be PVC now. Todd Miller
