I was wanting to have a metal roof installed over my old shingle roof and i called Advanced Metal Roofing, they suggested wooden 1 by 3 strips under the metal spaced 3 feet apart. I was wondering if being so small if the strips would split when the screws were put into it and being 3 feet apart if the metal panals would bend or buckle if i was to walk on it because i have 4 chimnys that need to be painted every few years and windows that i would need to get on my roof to clean.

I am sorry but I cannot answer this question. This is all a function of how the panel they are installing has been designed and tested to be installed. I would either contact the manufacturer or at the very least review their ICC (building code) report before allowing the installation to proceed. Todd Miller
