Comment on the performance of metal roofing and large hail--say baseball size which is common in midwest severe weather each summer.

I believe that virtually all metal roofs have passed the UL 2218 Impact Resistance Test at its most severe level -- Level IV. Metal products can dent with severe hail but that is cosmetric damage only. Metal products maintain their resiliency to hail even as they age. Other products, on the other hand, lose hail resistance with age and may leak even after just a minor storm. Some of the heavily textured metal products will do a better job of disguising small dings which may occur after severe hailstorms. Todd Miller
