i was wondering if you had any opinion one way or another on standing seam shingles. i really like the added dimension to the shingles vs. the 5v. are there any pitfalls to the shingle or any applications that they really don't do well on? also, 8 squares of our roof are too flat for metal. what are our other options? thanks so much for your info and for all of the help you give to everyone!

There are metal roof systems which can be used down to 1/4:12 pitch which is nearly flat. These are field-seamed standing seam systems and are available through most commercial roofing contractors and many residential guys as well. I only know of one company producing the standing seam shingles and that is ATAS International. They are a good member of the MRA. I really do not know much about the particular performance of their products though so I would suggest contacting them direct, sending them pictures of your home, and asking them if your roof is appropriate for their standing seam shingle.
