We are adding a one story addition that bridges about 15 ft. between two 16:12 gables on a 1925 Tudor home. The roof pitch on the addition is 1.5:12. The steep gables will have cedar shingles. We are considering a metal roof for the addition. Can you tell me what special considerations there are for this application? Our weather is relatively mild. The contractor suggested a 26 gauge 12" or 16" standing seam roof with a "self-locking" system. Thanks.

I think your contrator is on the right track. I would suggest using an ice and water shield as underlayment and tyhe building code does call for ventilation so if it is a vaulted ceiling you need to provide a minimum of 1" of vented free vertical air space between the roof covering and the insulation.
