Hi,
I am building a new house which has a portion of standing seam metal roof of pitch 2/12 and its three sides are surrounded by regular shingle in pitch of 6/12. One of roof contractor does not think it is good idea to use standing seam metal roof in this location since he said connecting sections are vulnerable for water leak. He recommends to use rubber membrane roof for this section. However, this is not designed by architect. Could you tell me what I should do this situation?
Thank you very much!

With a pitch transition flashing, this can be done with standing seam and it would be a very long-term answer.
However, there are several things to take into consideration including where the water from the other roofs is dumping and doing things in a way that will not over-burden or flood out a particular standing seam pan with water from the higher roofs. Using a wide pan would be helpful, as well as a high seam on the standing seam and either sealant in the seam or a mechanically closed seam.
I would suggest working closely with the standing seam manufacturer to verify that the proper metal roof is chosen and also that the flashing details and panel lay-out are correct for this application.
