Why would a homeowner use 26 ga. vs 29 ga. on a residense if both have same wind rating and paint guarantee?

Good question and it just supports why I have always stated that panel design and coating are more important than metal thickness. Ultimately, of course, longer life will be achieved with a heavier gauge panel. I would suggest that you may wish to read over an article on metal roofing my company has written which explains the various terms, panel types, and options. If you email to me at [email protected] I can email it to you. It sounds to me like you want your investment in a metal roof to be worth it. In order to achieve that, you may wish to investigate the full realm of products available today.
