HI, We just had a roof built over an existing porch and it which joins two already existing roofs. There are five skylights along this new portion of roof whose length measures about 18ft. The issue is that the new roof looks terrible due to the use of the skylight manufacturers flashing kit. The flashing sticks out in different widths from each skylight and is a different color than the roof. Is the use of a reputable skylight manufacturers flashing standard practice among installers and if not what would have been the normal installation procedure and products used for a somewhat tricky design?? Thanks Nikki can send pictures.

Most skylight manufacturer kits work just fine ... however, they must be used under the proper conditions (roof pitch, roofing materials, roof geometry, etc. and they must be instalkled correctly. Why would the same flashings, if installed, correctly, look different one from another? This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Is this on a metal roof? If you wish, email photos to me at [email protected] You may also wish to contact the roofing and skylight manufacturers direct. Todd Miller

I know this is an old post but.... Im bored. Todd you said you dont know why the look different? Its because the flashing kits come with extension pieces to expand on the width. Why you ask? Because on a metal roof there are ribs and if the rib doesnt fall correctly you can cut the panel wider and install the flashing extension. The picture two posts up shows a skylight improperly installed. There should be no screws along the side of the light and the seam on each side should run past the flashing kit a little farhter 4 or 5 iches so the seam lays flatter,BUT dont put any screws on that seam where water would come out of the channels or ... yes you will have a leak
