I have just had a new roof installed and now it will not pass inspection due to the plywood sheathing is not thick enough to meet code requirements, the product code required 19/32" plywood sheathing and I have 15/32" sheathing on my house when the shingles were removed and re-roofed with new standing seam metal roofing. I was never told by my roofing contractor that my house would require additional plywood sheathing to meet the product requirement so now I am looking at removing the metal roof, install additional sheathing to meet required thickness and then reinstall another metal roof...this of course is going to run double the price than I originally was quoted for my metal roof, I need an expert to help guide me on hiring someone that can straighten out this roof mess so I can be ready for next hurricane season. I would also like suggestions on other styles of metal roofing where I might save some costs on which way to go...I really do want a metal roof, I have one on my barn and seriously thinking of moving out of the house to the barn...please help!! :)

Hi Kathy, First, I would contact the metal roofing manufacturer. They may have tests results on decking similar to yours which could be taken to a licensed engineer in order to have them issue a report and get the job accepted. Even if the manufacturer cannot help you, I would consult with a licensed professional engineer with a specialty in structural issues. Todd Miller
