WHY METAL ROOFING

I LIVE IN NEW ENGLAND AND MY PRESENT ROOF IS ONLY 13 YEARS OLD BUT THE COLD WINTERS UP NORTH EFFECTS THE SHINGLES AND THE ROOF NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. ANYWAY I DONT SEE TO MANY METAL ROOFS UP NORTH WHY IS THAT? CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME INFORMATION TO CONVINCE ME METAL ROOFING IS THE WAY TO GO. THANKS

Well it sounds like your existing shingle roof is failing at half the warranted life span. Why not do it once and do it right. First investigate why your existing roofs keep failing premature and choose a metal roofing system that will help address this. Typically it is not the cold weathear that destroys the roof, it is a lack of ventilation which overheats the roof (and your home) as well as holding moisture, which starts the breakdown and then the cold weather goes to work on them to finish them off. Regardless of which system you choose, install ventilation to minimum 1/150 ration balanced with 50% at the eave and 50% at the ridge. Your home will thank you and you will live more comfortable and efficient. There are many styles of metal roofing that look like traditional materials such as slate, shake and tile, so you probably do not recognize them.
